The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Practicum Learning, the Director is responsible for the daily management and administration of operations in the Office of Practicum Learning at the Columbia School of Social Work (CSSW). The Director leads a team of Associate Directors in the residential and online program; manages student placement form assignments; participates in leadership meetings (COM, Advising, Practicum Learning Policy and DEI), NYC Director meetings and symposium; and serves on other faculty and administrative committees and task force groups. The Director will partner with both internal and external constituents, including CSSW faculty, students, advisors, CUSSW administrative offices, and other social work and non-social work professionals both at other schools of social work and working generally in the field. The incumbent will also manage significant program components in the Practicum Learning Office.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the workload of Associate Directors of Practicum Learning.
- Lead strategies that enhance team productivity, connecting them to resources and other social work networks; tracking outcomes, to ensure progress toward accomplishing the goals of the Office and advancing the mission of the school.
- Develop and maintain relationships with field sites and match students with an appropriate field site.
- Assign and monitor the distribution of student placement forms to ensure equity across Associate Directors’ student caseloads.
- Collaborate with faculty and other CSSW staff members in the design, development, and implementation of Practicum Learning initiatives and other projects.
- Design, develop, and implement Office of Practicum Learning activities related to student specialization planning, field instructor support, advisor training, and/or professional conferences related to Practicum Learning.
- Oversee a variety of programs including the Practicum Learning Fair.
- Partner with the CSSW Office of Advising to manage inquiries related to student placement and to address related pedagogical matters.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required and 5–7 years related experience in agency-based social work, including staff supervision.
- Prior experience working in a graduate school of social work Practicum Learning Office
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated comfort in interacting with a broad constituency
- Ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines and prioritize work, while leading multiple concurrent projects with minimal supervision
- Ability to work with and be supportive of team effort is essential
- A strong sales and customer service orientation along with commitment to creative and innovative practice
- Must have ability to operate with tact, discretion, diplomacy, and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters in Social Work strongly preferred.
