Position Summary

This position is for a primary research Technician A that will conduct and perform experiments involving molecular biology and mouse models in the Department of Dermatology at Columbia University.  The individual will set up, carry out, and analyze experiments under the general supervision of the investigator. 


Responsibilities

  • Perform molecular biology assays and preparing solutions according to detailed instructions.
  • Set up and calibrating equipment for experiments.  
  • Carry out fully planned experiments, including cell culture, molecular biology, and mouse work. 
  • Assist in collection of samples.
  • Keep electronic records of the results of experiments.
  • Contribute authorship of scientific documents including manuscripts, research grants, and laboratory protocols. 
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.  


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of basic molecular biology laboratory methods and mouse models is preferred. 


Other Requirements

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Experience working in research laboratory environment.
  • Must be highly organized, with excellent communication and follow up skills.
