The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

The Committee on Global Thought (CGT) was established in 2006 with the mission of enhancing the university’s engagement with issues of global importance. The Committee is therefore committed to cross-disciplinary and transnational approaches in order to address the challenges and opportunities of the twenty-first-century world.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Columbia University’s CGT, the Events and Communications Advisor, VHO will contribute to the support of the Committee’s event planning, media and communications, and financial administration.


Responsibilities

  • Advises on the design and creation of publicity materials for CGT’s event promotion and other communications priorities.
  • Contributes to planning and strategy for MA program advertising, social media messaging and CGT’s newsletter.
  • Contributes to the oversight, planning and execution of all CGT events, including student programs, public events and other convenings. 
  • Manages financial processes, including but not limited to: processing reconciliations; payment records and tracking; reviewing and submitting expenses, reimbursements, invoices, and honoraria; audit assistance; and conducting basic procurement functions.
  • Maintains reporting for the Executive Director, providing detailed analysis.
  • Advises on scheduling and room bookings, office administration, office supply orders, subscriptions and technology. 
  • Coordinates, along with CGT staff, three work-study positions, delegating work-study assignments, and providing guidance on priorities. 
  • Supports other programmatic priorities, including but not limited to the support of Sponsored Projects and other research-related administrative duties as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 0-2 years of related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent related experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Columbia University’s accounting systems (ARC) and other CU administrative platforms.
  • At least two years in related administrative experience in a university, especially events and/or media support, or other complex organization.
  • Experience and knowledge in drafting documents, interpersonal communications, customer service, dealing with ambiguity, program planning, and other organizational skills. 
  • Basic knowledge of social media platforms and tools, and event photography, are a plus.
