Position Summary

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology is looking to hire a Technician B to work in the laboratory of Dr. Ryan Gaudet. The candidate will be technical support staff for the Principal Investigator and other lab investigators, as needed.

Responsibilities

We are a new lab that seeks to understand how tissues coordinate with the immune system to defend against pathogens. These studies are critical to understand the molecular basis of immunity at sites of infection and define the potentially devastating consequences of their failure during disease. The pathways we discover will support the design of next generation of antibiotics and vaccines that target specific organ systems rather than the immune system as a whole. We work with cell culture systems, animal models, and fresh human tissue samples obtained from organ donors in collaboration with Dr. Donna Farber as part of a novel initiative in Human Tissue Immunity and Disease.  See our lab website for more information.

Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist with general lab management tasks including keeping track of, organizing, and ordering supplies and organizing equipment maintenance, as needed.
  • Performing molecular biology experiments (Cloning, PCR etc.).
  • Performing cell culture experiments and microscopy. Maintenance of lab stocks/quality control.
  • Lab ordering and helping to set up and maintain equipment.
  • Data analysis and helping to communicate data in scientific formats.
  • Preparing solutions and assisting with general lab maintenance.
  • Willing to learn more complex experiments such as single cell RNA sequencing.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Knowledge of various related laboratory procedures and techniques preferred.
  • One year of related experience preferred.
