Position Summary

The Center for Advanced Cardiac Care (CACC) at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic candidate to join our team as a full-time Research Worker. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Nir Uriel and the research team on a variety of research projects in the realm of advanced heart failure, mechanocirculatory support, and heart transplantation. As part of a dynamic research environment, the ideal candidate should be adaptable to working in a fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities

  • Generate research questions, gather data from the electronic medical record and/or clinical registries, and recruit participants for investigator-initiated trials.
  • Perform biostatistical analyses of clinical data to answer research questions.
  • Provide biostatistical support to other members of the research team.
  • Maintain effective communication with the research team, providing regular updates on progress and challenges.
  • Prepare scientific abstracts and article manuscripts for submission to academic conferences and journals.
  • Provide support in any way as needed to ensure smooth operation of the research team.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. biomedical sciences, public health, biomedical engineering, computer science, or a related discipline) and at least 3 years of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience. 
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Python, R, SPSS, or SAS.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and evolving research environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a significant data analysis component.
  • Familiarity with cardiovascular research.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience with biostatistical analysis.
  • Prior abstract/journal publications.
  • Experience working with patients in a hospital setting.

Other Requirements

  • The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to final offer of employment being made.
  • Must successfully complete systems training requirements.
  • Participation in Medical Surveillance Program
    • Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
    • Wear N-95 respirator
    • Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
