The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

Under the guidance of senior members of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the Admissions Officer is responsible for the daily management of a geographic region to recruit, evaluate, and enroll an academically accomplished and diverse student body to Columbia College and The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science.  The officer is responsible for the day-to-day communication with students, parents, secondary school officials, and alumni.  The officer will be responsible for evaluating approximately 1,100-1,200 applications per recruitment cycle; responsibilities include all calls, correspondence, visitations, admissions recommendations, and alumni contact; makes critical judgments, presents arguments recommending admissions decisions to the Admissions Committee; counsels candidates and their parents on admissions and curricular choices.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing a region that produces approximately 1,100-1,200 applications.
  • Provide critical judgments and recommendations to the Committee on Admissions on the candidates from their region.
  • Implement a comprehensive recruitment campaign to attract the world's most talented students to Columbia College and the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science.
  • Travel is expected approximately 3-5 weeks per cycle in order to provide counseling, along with making frequent presentations to students, parents, and secondary school officials concerning the unique attributes of a Columbia education.
  • Responsible for making presentations on campus to prospective students and their families.
  • Support targeted recruitment initiatives, such as science, arts and humanities, engineering, rural, and/or multicultural recruitment.
  • Facilitate the coordination of virtual and on-campus events for prospective and admitted students.
  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of electronic, print, and web communication.
  • Work with team members on the implementation and coordination of non-first-year admissions programs, such as transfers and Combined Plan students.
  • Assume other responsibilities as designated by a member of the office's senior staff.   

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. 
  • A valid driver's license and a willingness to travel are essential.
