The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Zha laboratory performs oncology research. Incumbent will perform basic molecular biology analyses. S/he will also perform other duties necessary for the functioning and maintenance of the laboratory. This laboratory develops animal models (mouse) to study cancer biology, immunology and with a developing interest in primate neuroscience.
Responsibilities
- Work with live animal models (mice) and perform immunological and basic molecular biology techniques, including flow cytometry, tissue isolation, DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, recombinant DNA cloning, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, and tissue culture.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of experimental procedures and results.
- Participate in lab meetings, present research findings, and actively engage in the collaborative research environment. High-performing technicians may have the opportunity to contribute to new projects and work closely with the Principal Investigator on developing new research directions in immunology and cancer biology.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to high-quality laboratory research and a genuine interest in biology and disease.
- Support laboratory operations, including adherence to safety protocols, organization of supplies and reagents, equipment maintenance, and other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or physics or a completed animal husbandry program or equivalent in education, training, and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of various related laboratory procedures and techniques.
- One year of related experience.
- Prior experience in a research laboratory, including work with animal models and flow cytometry, is highly desirable.
- Experience with human iPSC cell culture and neuronal differentiation is a plus.
- 0–6 months of experience with cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques is acceptable. Candidates must be comfortable working with animal models. Additional experience in animal care, surgical techniques, and flow cytometry is advantageous but not required.
Other Requirements
- Experience and/or comfort working with mice.
- A strong passion for scientific research and problem-solving; highly self-motivated, responsible, and capable of working independently.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required. Proficiency in basic computer applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is essential. Experience with coding in R, MATLAB, or Python is a plus.
- Flexibility to occasionally work evenings or weekends to complete experiments, as needed.
