The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Operations for Professional Affairs Administration (PAA), the incumbent part-time Variable Hours Officer (VHO) will assume a key role in executing the communications strategy of the PAA team. The incumbent will be responsible for managing several of PAA’s major communications campaigns and online resources. The incumbent will work with the various offices within PAA – Office of Private Sector Careers (OPSC), Office of Public Interest/Public Sector Law and Careers (PI/PS), Office of Judicial Careers (OJC), and Office of Graduate Programs (OGP) – as well as numerous other student-facing administrative offices at the Law School to build and execute these communications and resources.


Responsibilities

  • Oversee The Gavel, the Law School’s weekly student newsletter, which is sent in four editions (one each for the 1L, 2L, 3L, and LLM class) every Monday  during  the academic year. Key responsibilities include:
      1.  Gathering content from all student-facing teams and other offices providing services, programs, etc. to students;
      2. Laying out, editing and formatting the newsletter;
      3. Scheduling the newsletters  for distribution via  CampusGroups;
      4. Archiving the newsletters for later use on the web;
      5. Maintaining a high standard of editorial excellence in curating content and providing the Gavels to students in a manner that is easy to navigate and digest and promotes strong student engagement;
      6. Maintain or exceed consistently high open rates throughout the academic year. 
  • Manage The Staffle, PAA’s monthly staff engagement newsletter. Key responsibilities include:
      1. Gathering content from PAA staff;
      2. Conceiving and crafting editorial content;
      3. Identifying resources, including campus-wide, city-wide, and other resources to highlight for the staff’s benefit;
      4. Maintaining a high standard of editorial excellence in PAA’s mission to inform, inspire, and enlighten our staff. 
  • Oversee the semi-annual updating of the four student Roadmaps, which provide our JD and LLM students with a month-by-month snapshot of important dates and deadlines as well as things to be thinking about throughout the year. Work to gather updates from the various teams represented, and update the website accordingly. 
  • Perform other duties as needed. 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and three to five years of relevant experience required. 


Preferred Qualifications

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills required. Knowledge of HTML and Excel strongly preferred. An understanding of web publishing and the technical concepts involved in its implementation and/or editorial experience, highly desired. Solutions based/project management experience a plus.  Must be a life-long learner and able to work independently as well as part of a diverse team. Must demonstrate the ability to meet strict deadlines and think creatively about using technology to meet the needs of students, employers and other constituents served by our teams. Graduate degree in communications, journalism or similar field, a plus. Must be able to work with diverse constituencies and support an inclusive work environment.

 

Required Competencies

  • Demonstrated experience working successfully with teams of diverse races, religions, orientations, abilities, cultural backgrounds, etc. 
  • Proficiency using CampusGroups, or similar student success and/or newsletter platforms, and Drupal.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
  • Competency in user experience design for web platforms.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in the handling of sensitive and confidential information.
  • Knowledge of or strong interest in understanding student engagement in the law school context. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated capacity to meaningfully interact with diverse, multi-generational constituents. 
  • Affinity for collaboration and ability to work well across all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to multitask and be part of a collegial team, and maintain calm under pressure while balancing competing tasks with tight deadlines.
  • Organizational and analytical skills and the ability to synthesize and meaningfully evaluate data.
