The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

Columbia University Irving Medical Center Department of Neurology Stroke Division seeks a mission-driven Social Worker to provide assessment, counseling, and case management for clients participating in a 5-year stroke study funded by the National Institutes of Health. The Social Worker is expected to deliver evidence-based, trauma-informed care; coordinate services; and collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary research and program team.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments for study participants/research clients.
  • Provide therapy/psychotherapy, evidence-based interventions, and appropriate referrals.
  • Mental health assessments/treatments will be conducted under the supervision of a licensed practitioner.
  • Document services and outcomes using the study's tracking platform; maintain timely, accurate notes that meet research and compliance standards.
  • Share case/status updates and clinical insights with the study team.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.
  • Must hold a degree in Social Work from a CSWE accredited university/college AND an appropriate certificate from the New York State Education Department.
  • Must possess a current New York State License in Social Work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluent in Spanish and English (spoken and written).
  • MSW
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfort with data systems (e.g., Apricot).
  • Excellent presentation, oral/written communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and work independently within a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.
  • High levels of empathy, patience, cultural responsiveness, and a strengths-based, hope-centered approach.

Other Requirements

  • Experience working with children, youth, adults, and older adults.
  • Experience leading through crises or supporting individuals in crisis situations.
  • Deep knowledge of NYC health and social service systems (government, nonprofit, and low/no-cost resources).
  • Experience with stroke survivors, individuals with physical disabilities, or neurorehabilitation.
  • Prior work within a clinical research or medical study environment and adherence to protocols.
