Position Summary

The Lung Biology Laboratory in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care within the Department of Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a Technician B to support ongoing research in organ-based immunobiology. This position offers opportunities for skill development in advanced laboratory techniques. The Technician B will assist in executing experiments, maintaining laboratory resources, and supporting research documentation.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct live tissue imaging using confocal microscopy and precision-cut lung slice technology
  • Assist in protein purification and liposome preparation
  • Maintain and breed transgenic mouse colonies
  • Prepare samples and perform molecular biology assays (e.g., PCR, Western blotting, ELISA)
  • Collect, organize, and present experimental data
  • Learn and apply data analysis tools under supervision
  • Support the development and maintenance of IACUC protocols
  • Contribute to grant applications and manuscript preparation
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff and participate in team-based research activities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or a related scientific field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with confocal microscopy, molecular biology techniques, and animal handling
  • Technical writing experience for scientific documentation

Other Requirements

  • The candidate selected for this position is required to undergo a drug screening test prior to a final offer of employment being made
  • Medical clearance and participation in the medical surveillance program are required
    • Work involves laboratory animals
  • Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
