Position Summary

The Ramachandran Lab seeks a temporary technician B position. This position will be working with a collaborative team of researchers to elucidate the characteristics of a novel proteasome species located in the plasma membrane of neurons, which plays an important role in maintaining cell health and propagating neuronal communication. The Technician B will spearhead the synthesis of molecules to probe for the location and functions of the proteasome, alongside performing biochemical assays and assisting other lab members with various tasks.

This position is for one year.


Responsibilities

  • Perform chemical synthesis, purification, and analysis using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) - 40%.
  • Perform biochemical experiments on primary neuronal cultures for neuroproteasome-derived peptide extraction and using those purified peptides for experiments on neuronal cultures - 40%.
  • Assist in preparation of figures and written materials for grants and publications - 10%.
  • Perform lab chores and assist other lab members with experiments, and equipment maintenance - 10%.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of various related laboratory procedures and techniques preferred.
