Position Summary

The Department of Pediatrics is seeking a technician to join our team in a full time position. Columbia University Medical Center's Department of Pediatrics is a world leader in providing care for children. Our mission areas include Healthcare, Education and Research. We offer care for our patients in over 25 specialty areas as well as individualized care for complex cases. Our Residency, Fellowship and Graduate programs are among the best in the Nation. Our Clinical, Translational and Basic Science research features collaborations across specialties and stretches from the bench to bedside. We also have several active Clinical trials available to our patients. This position will support the department by providing research assistance to clinical and multiple ongoing research project with patients. All studies involve work with children and adolescents.


Responsibilities

  • Duties and responsibilities:

    1. Provide support and assistance to clinical and multiple ongoing research projects with patients
    2. Support and assist with the initiation and execution of new protocols and projects
    3. Keep records and test project results
    4. File patient charts/data
    5. Assist in the collection of samples for experimental or diagnostic purposes
    6. Assist with eliciting information from patients and their families in accordance with structured interview procedures
    7. Perform library and online literature research
    8. Assist with the preparation of PowerPoint presentations, manuscripts, abstracts and grants
    9. Perform other related duties as necessary to the functioning of the research projects
    10. All studies involve work with children and adolescents
    -Any other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of college or a completed A.A. program with an emphasis in chemistry, biology or physics or a completed animal husbandry program. One year of related experience, or equivalent in education, training and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A minimum of one year of experience working with children and their families is preferred.

Other Requirements

  • The applicant must demonstrate the ability to: multitask efficiently and successfully; effectively communicate/explain procedures to children and their families; perform work in an organized manner; learn and adapt to new techniques and tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint and working knowledge of the internet is required.
  • Knowledge of some Spanish is helpful but not required.
