The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
Columbia University Medical Center is seeking a Senior Network Engineer who will be focused on wireless capabilities, Network Access Control (NAC) and Network Management systems.
Responsibilities
• Design and engineer wireless infrastructure services. 25%
• Responsible for upgrades, implementation, and testing of full proactive Network Access Control for various networks 20%
• Utilize best practices for NAC policy creation 15%
• Manage & deploy the IP network subnets on a per appliance basis ---20% (including the below)
• Managing relationships, partnerships and fostering a positive work environment utilizing conflict resolution skills when necessary
• Aid in installation and evaluation of data communication products and documentation of procedures for installation, use, maintenance, troubleshooting, and management of these products
• IP Network Design skills, including a strong understanding of standard routing protocols---15% (including the below)
• Monitor for unauthorized equipment, investigate security incidents, and recommend improvement
• Responsible for maintaining a network tap infrastructure and aggregation devices necessary to allow NAC visibility of the networks
• that NAC is managing
• Development of automated network monitoring and management tools
• Provides after hours on-call support on a team rotational basis (approximately 1 week per 2-3 months)
• Other duties as assigned 5%
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree in computer science preferred or equivalent in education and experience, plus seven years of related experience.
• Advanced expertise with TCP/IP networking protocols and concepts
• Working knowledge of, DNS/DHCP, SMNP, Active Directory a plus, RADIUS
authentication/authorization
• Experience working with Cisco\HP and Arista and Cisco Prime and Aruba
Infrastructure experience
• Strong communications, writing and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Comprehensive knowledge of wireless networking systems and protocols
• Expert WLAN troubleshooting skills
• 1+ years of hands-on IT experience with experience with Network Access Control
(NAC) e.g. Forescout CounterACT, Aruba ClearPass,
• Cisco Prime\DNA
• Hands-on experience with security systems including Palo Alto firewalls, IDS/IPS,
NAC, APT
• Recent programming knowledge (Perl, Python, C, PowerShell, Ruby, SOAP, XML,
Java/Hadoop) and scripting experience
•Strong knowledge and proficiency in networking protocols (including but not limited
to 802.1a\b\g 802.1x authentication (PEAP\EAPTLS),
• routing protocols (BGP, OSPF etc)
• Sound knowledge of data communication wiring (CAT5/5E/6/6E and Fiber)
• Experience using security tools in a multi domain environment
• Familiar with 802.11 a/b/g and 802.1 Q standards and RF technology
• Experience in all aspects of wireless LAN engineering or 5 years of experience in all
aspects of wireless LAN operational support
• Industry network certifications a plus
• Hands-on experience with data cabling installation practices as well as fiber and
copper materials is strongly desired
• Extensive knowledge of basic networking hardware (routers, switches, bridges) and
protocols (UDP, TCP/IP)
• Strong documentation skills including updating ticketing systems, Wiki Pages and Network Diagrams
