Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Technician to join the laboratory of Dr. Mendelsohn in the Department of Urology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York, NY. The Senior Technician will work semi-independently and be responsible for performing experiments handling tissue and immunostaining and preparing material for gene expression profiling. Sr. Tech will also be responsible for breeding and maintaining a small number of mouse lines. 


Responsibilities

  • Work with mouse models of bladder cancer, including testing preclinical drug models.
  • Identify genetic markers that selectively label tumor cells.
  • Work with animals, flow sorting of cells from adult mouse tissue, RNA preparation and other molecular biology techniques, fluorescent microscopy and digital imaging.
  • Work with Excel spread sheets (PCR, molecular biology use of Excel) and other programs (Microsoft PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop).
  • Performs other duties as required/assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or an equal combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum 1.5 years working in a professional team environment.
  • A working knowledge of biology-focused lab.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with mice.
  • Experience working with tissue and sections.
  • 1.5 years experience working working in a lab, performing molecular biological techniques; running gels, making solutions, and general lab responsibilities. Experience managing mouse colonies and genotyping mice,  with histological/immunostaining of tissue samples is a plus.
