The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice Provost, the Senior Associate Director, Data Analysis and Reporting supports the University’s compliance with federal regulatory requirements and any related or adjacent University, regional, and accreditation policies through robust data analysis and reporting. The Senior Associate Director conducts complex analyses across multiple university data profiles, facilitates and contributes to analytical reports, and applies project management practices to advance office initiatives. The role also actively strategizes and supports the development and enhancement of systems and tools to improve data quality, reporting effectiveness, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Collects, analyzes, reconciles, and validates complex data—primarily but not exclusively related to student and admissions activity—across multiple university profiles to support compliance and institutional reporting needs.
- Integrates information from internal university databases and school-level sources, with a strong emphasis on data integrity, consistency, and usability.
- Conducts descriptive and comparative analyses and synthesizes findings to inform institutional understanding and decision-making.
- Utilizes Columbia's data to operationalize reporting definitions and requirements for compliance purposes.
- Maintains, documents, and updates reporting definitions, methodologies, assumptions, and data logic used for institutional and regulatory reporting to ensure consistency, transparency, and continuity across reporting cycles.
- Identifies, investigates, and resolves data discrepancies across University systems and sources; works with data owners and system stakeholders to reconcile differences or document variances as needed.
- Partners strategically with other units and institutional stakeholders to support the full scope of responsibilities within the Vice Provost’s portfolio, including but not limited to Office of Planning and Institutional Research.
- Contributes to office-wide strategies for meeting compliance, reporting, and operational obligations by aligning data definitions, methodologies, and workflows.
- Utilizes a broad range of electronic systems and tools to support data tracking, management, documentation, and coordinated execution across initiatives.
- Supports internal and external audits, reviews, or data inquiries related to institutional and compliance reporting by preparing analyses, documentation, and responses in coordination with relevant offices.
- Prepares, contributes to, and coordinates written reports that emerge from data analysis and compliance initiatives.
- Supports and manages discrete projects, including timelines, deliverables, and communication with stakeholders, to ensure timely and accurate completion of reporting and analysis efforts.
- Provides interpretive guidance to stakeholders and leadership on analytical findings, data limitations, and reporting implications; responds to data related inquiries with appropriate context and documentation.
- Performs additional responsibilities as assigned in support of unit and institutional goals.
Minimum Qualifications for the Grade
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- A minimum of 4-6 years of experience.
Additional Position-Specific Minimum Qualifications
- Advanced ability to analyze and interpret complex institutional data, operationalize reporting definitions, and develop analytically grounded recommendations that support University reporting standards and institutional objectives.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, well organized, and accurate documentation and analytical reports.
- Experience in progressively responsible roles with significant administrative responsibilities and prior experience providing project management support required.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate, manage, implement and evaluate multiple projects and activities with varied deadlines.
- Ability to work with all levels of personnel.
- Availability for occasional evening and weekend work as required to meet reporting timelines or institutional deadlines.
- The position will require the incumbent to have a track record of innovation and entrepreneurship, alongside a commitment to collaboration. The candidate will have a strategic, forward-thinking orientation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree preferred.
- Experience in a university, non-profit, or other comparable environment is desirable.
