The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

The Research Pharmacy is a division within the Clinical Trials Office (CTO).  This position reports directly to the Research Pharmacy’s Senior Director who oversees all operations of Research Pharmacy (RP) at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

The CTO assists investigators and academic/research staff in developing clinical trials and provides administrative and clinical resources and infrastructure, to build and sustain clinical trials research at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (VP&S). 

Under the supervision of the Senior Director, a licensed pharmacist, or senior coordinator, the successful candidate will assist with organization and management of clinical investigations according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the applicable regulatory requirements.


Responsibilities

  • Assist with a high-volume Investigation Drug Service (IDS).
  • Receive, ship, and inventory investigational drug products and devices.
  • Manage inventory and drug supply.
  • Support monitoring systems at all locations including temperature monitoring systems.
  • Conduct monitoring visits.
  • Assist pharmacists in audit preparation.
  • Read and understand drug orders, follow federal and state regulations, USP requirements, GCPs, and departmental SOPs.
  • Enter detailed and accurate information into the IDS information system and IDS forms.
  • Weigh materials, take inventory, assist with production.
  • Maintain a clear and clean work area.
  • Transport materials between pharmacy sites, storage areas, and patient care units.
  • Deliver drug products to study areas, interact with co-workers, study coordinators, investigators, sponsors, and hospital staff.
  • Perform other duties as necessary to fulfill the obligations of the Research Pharmacy.
  • Additional duties include day-to-day office duties.
  • Must be able to work Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM. Duties outside of these hours may occasionally be required.
  • Must possess the following attributes - excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, excellent computer, organizational and planning skills, pleasant phone manner, must be punctual responsible and dependable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a scientific area or equivalency required.
  • Pharmacy experience required.
  • A Medical Surveillance Exam, Information, Security & HIPAA Compliance Training, and Laboratory Safety & Hazardous Waste Training are required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pharmacy technician certification preferred.
  • IDS experience preferred.
  • Columbia University Medical Center clinical research experience preferred.
