Position Summary

The Department of Biomedical Informatics is seeking a dedicated Research Associate with a strong work ethic and excellent computational and communication skills. The ideal candidate will contribute to research activities, support R&D initiatives, and participate in collaborative projects within Dr. Weng’s lab. Working under Dr. Weng’s direction, the Research Associate will engage with a diverse, interdisciplinary team of experts spanning medicine, informatics, engineering, nursing, and ethics.


Responsibilities

  • Developing and evaluating Symbolic Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models for Biomedical and health applications using vast clinical evidence.
  • Programming, research, user involvement and publication.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires bachelor’s degree in computer science, plus two years of research experience

  • Must demonstrate successful completion of projects of significant scope and complexity, possess the ability and willingness to work efficiently with faculty, users and staff and perform multiple tasks with competing deadlines. Good judgment and communication skills are essential.

     


Other Requirements

  • Strong computational background is expected.
  • Experience with GPT API, LLAMA, Deepseek, and other popular large language models with example research products is expected.
  • Outstanding scientific communication skills are required to contribute to the scientific publications of the assigned projects.
  • Proficient in common programming languages such as Java, Python, R, etc.
  • Familiar with full stack development including front-end user interfaces and backend database management systems.
  • Have an excellent ability to collaborate and be able to work with interdisciplinary teams and support many projects simultaneously.
