The Laboratory for Synthetic Organogenesis (Simunovic Lab) at and the Laboratory for Computational Cancer Biology (Azizi Lab) at Columbia University are seeking a Research Assistant (RA) to support experimental research efforts in basic biomedical research jointly between the two labs. The RA will work closely with senior scientists in the labs and participate in challenging, innovative, and dynamic research projects. They will learn the routine lab techniques and build strong analytical skills. The work between the two labs is at the interface of biology and engineering, employing advanced tissue culture and human stem cell biology, tissue engineering, single-cell genomic profiling, and molecular biology techniques. Responsibilities will include designing and performing experiments, assisting in basic lab maintenance, coordinating tissue culture training, maintaining a clear, organized, up to date notebook, presenting work at laboratory meetings and conferences, attending lectures and other enriching experiences at Columbia. Given that the research is heavily based on tissue culture, the RA must be able to occasionally work on weekends for urgent cell culture or necessary maintenance. The RAs will be fully immersed in research and other enriching lab activities, receive mentorship from the PIs and support in developing their careers. Most RAs will stay for two years then pursue M.D. or Ph.D. programs around the country, or pursue biomedical startup or industry careers.
