Position Summary

The Research Assistant for the Department of Surgery will assist within the Clinical Research Lab of Dr. Michael Argenziano to facilitate cardiothoracic research studies. The individual will work closely with Principal Investigators and Post-Doctoral Researchers on a variety of research projects focusing on cardiac valve surgery, myocardial protection, minimally invasive and robotic procedures, and mechanical cardiac assistance and transplantation. Will also collaborate with basic translational and animal research teams.


Responsibilities

  • Assist in data collection and entry from clinical databases and patient charts.
  • Conduct literature reviews on relevant cardiac surgery topics.
  • Support the preparation of IRB submissions and amendments.
  • Assist with data cleaning and statistical analysis under supervision.
  • Help draft abstracts, posters, and manuscripts for scientific presentations and publications.
  • Attend lab meetings, journal clubs, and educational seminars.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential research records in accordance with institutional protocols.
  • Communicate amongst both researchers and clinicians.
  • Support other functions as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least one year of related experience or equivalent in education, training and experience.  
  • Knowledge of various related data management and statistical procedures.
  • Intermediate to advanced level MS Office skills.

Other Requirements

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Familiarity and experience with data collection and storage systems and statistical software.
  • Experience working with patient files, patient demographics and clinical information.
  • Able to present research and scientific data in a professional setting.
