Position Summary

The Research Assistant will work closely with the Division of Movement Disorders clinical research core in research studies for movement disorders. This role involves significant patient interaction and collaboration with physicians and administrators.

Responsibilities

The position involves many distinct roles and responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:

• Oversee recruiting and consenting activities for pharmaceutical company sponsored and federally funded clinical research studies in Parkinson’s Disease (PD), Multiple Systems Atrophy (MSA), Spinocerebellar Ataxia (SCA), and Essential Tremor (ET), and other movement disorders.
• Adhere to strict regulatory guidelines and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards to ensure the integrity of clinical research data collected.
• Accurately collect and enter data according to ALCOA+C standards into electronic case report forms, databases, and regulatory documentation.
• Analyze data from Excel and SPSS databases; perform statistical/hypothesis testing and summarize findings in reports and presentations.
• Collect and process blood, CSF, urine, skin biopsy and other biological samples per diagnostic/experimental protocol requirements.
• Perform IRB regulatory submissions: write and edit project summary protocols and consent forms; review and edit submissions when necessary.
• Assist with writing and editing manuscripts and grants as necessary.
• Conduct study visits including electrocardiograph, vitals, cognitive assessments and other responsibilities as outlined in protocol and delegation of authority.
• Administer semi-structured clinical interviews with patients and healthy controls using study-specific history, and cognitive/neuropsychological testing.
• Assist with division-wide responsibilities to support the operations of clinical research core.
• Ability to adapt to protocol and patient requirements.
• Attend community outreach events, support patient engagement, and participate in professional meetings and presentations as needed, including travel and occasional weekends.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires a bachelor's degree and at least 1.5 years of related experience or equivalent in education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing/cleaning databases and fluency with statistics are strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with Excel and SPSS is preferred.
• Fluency in Spanish.
