Position Summary

The Department of Epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health is recruiting a full-time research analyst to work with Dr. Zeki Al Hazzouri’s research team on ongoing active NIH-funded projects focused on cognitive aging and ADRD. The analyst will use advanced statistical methods to understand determinants of dementia, including involvement in population-based studies with extensive epidemiologic and clinical data. They will perform population health research activities, managing various datasets, performing data analyses, drafting and preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals, and providing other research and methodological support for existing and ongoing studies of the research team including conference submissions or academic presentations. The analyst will be expected to increase their substantive knowledge of ADRD and life course determinants over time.

Current projects that the analyst may contribute to include (1) a study rigorously examining the relationships between hypertension, its treatment, and ADRD risk among US veterans, (2)  using vast electronic health record data to evaluate the relationship between statin medications and ADRD using quasi-experimental methods and machine learning, (3) study combining multiple data sources to create a synthetic pooled diverse dataset to enable the investigation of a range of lifecourse social and vascular risk factors, (4) investigation of migration effects and dementia risk using pooled binational data, and (5) a longitudinal cohort investigating the effects of late life learning on cognitive function and its ability to mediate earlier psychosocial exposures.

Responsibilities

Statistical Analysis on principal projects– 60%

Assistance with data analyses of the team – 10%

Manuscript drafting – 15%

Data Management – 10%

Other related duties as assigned – 5%


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree 

Preferred Qualifications

A Master’s degree in epidemiology or biostatistics or a related field. Programming experience in STATA and R. Candidates with work experience in health and epidemiology related research, manuscript production, and a demonstrated interest in reproducibility and data management are preferred.

Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and present complex data findings. Demonstrated analytical, organizational, and independent project management skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills, high level of initiative, an ability to be flexible to the team’s evolving needs, and a readiness/excitement to grow as a research scientist and member of Dr. Zeki Al Hazzouri’s lab.
