Position Summary
Columbia Health Medical Services seeks a highly skilled, self-motivated Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as a frontline clinical provider within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary college health environment. The Registered Nurse functions as a primary clinical assessor and triage professional, utilizing sound clinical judgment to evaluate patient concerns, determine appropriate levels of care, and coordinate timely follow-up and referrals. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurse practitioners, clinical care managers, and allied health professionals, the RN contributes to efficient patient flow, quality clinical operations, and a safe care environment. This role plays a critical part in delivering comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care to a diverse student population with a wide range of acute, chronic, and preventive health needs.
This is an essential on-site position.
Required to work a minimum of 3-5 Saturdays during the Spring and Fall academic terms
Responsibilities
Triage patient concerns using strong clinical assessment skills, including crisis intervention, acute and chronic medical issues, and women’s health–related needs.
Refer patients for clinical evaluation and follow-up using the electronic scheduling system, including urgent, same-day, or future appointments.
Administer medications and treatments such as allergy injections, immunization, ear irrigations, urgent care nursing procedures, pregnancy screening, and women’s health counseling, including Plan B.
Conduct telephone triage through the Nurse Clinical Symptom Line.
Assist with nursing projects, protocols, and clinical guidelines, including policies and procedure updates.
Participate in interdisciplinary committees, programs, and community outreach efforts.
Coordinate patient care for women’s health and a wide range of medical concerns, including follow-up on laboratory work and results.
Serve as a clinical resource for medical providers (MDs, NPs), Medical Assistants, and Health Services Assistants regarding nursing care and education.
Participate in educational sessions, in-service trainings, and Practice Group Meetings.
Administer prescribed medications and treatments under the guidance of providers.
Engage in ongoing professional development, including self-evaluation, Peer Review, and Quality Management activities.
Provide health education on acute and chronic medical conditions, emphasizing self-care and wellness/prevention for patients and the broader Columbia community.
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, medical assistants, laboratory staff, physicians, nurse practitioners, case managers, and nutritionists.
Support patient flow and care delivery in triage and urgent care under the direction of the Associate Director.
