The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

The Project Manager, Clinical and Translational Research, provides management, administrative and operational support for projects and initiatives led by the VP&S Office for Research (OfR). The Manager, Special Projects, will be responsible for managing all phases of a variety of short and long-term special projects for the OfR, including developing project scope and structure, managing collaborations, and monitoring and managing progress. The Manager will facilitate regular communication with internal partners, including agenda setting, tracking and execution of follow-up items and project milestones, and promote research updates to the Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) community. This position will be responsible for preparing status reports on project plans and progress and developing and maintaining information systems to support project implementation, operations, and management.

This articulate and well-organized individual must have demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, manage competing priorities, and work proactively when under tight deadlines and with minimal supervision. The position requires excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills in addition to excellent interpersonal and communications skills.

 


Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Project Management:
    • Provide project development, implementation, management, and evaluation support for special projects managed by the Office for Research
    • Coordinate school-wide and cross-departmental efforts to support institutional research priorities like research optimization and other high priority initiatives
    • Develop project timelines and deliverables while ensuring compliance with institutional policies and reporting to designated stakeholders
    • Develop, disseminate, and manage user communications, SOPs, and SharePoint sites for shared resources
  • Data Analysis and Reporting:
    • Develop, collect, analyze, and maintain project metrics and outcomes that support transparent reporting for stakeholders and senior institutional leadership
    • Manage and maintain large databases of institutional funding related information, including the Training Management System (TMS) and the Training Grant Coordinated Effort
    • Develop data reports for senior leadership, faculty committees, and working groups
    • Provide detailed process documentation and data organization for project maintenance
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Communications:
    • Serve as primary point of contact for faculty and leadership on designated special projects
    • Facilitate communication between research teams and administrative offices where necessary
    • Support OfR website strategy and work closely with content contributors to plan, create and edit content, and maintain consistency.
    • Other related duties as assigned

 


Minimum Qualifications

  • Position Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree and 4 years of experience and equivalent in education and experience
    • Previous experience in research administration, project management, and strategic communications required
    • Strong understanding of biomedical research processes, regulations, and funding mechanisms
    • Excellent project management skills with ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders
    • Proficiency in data analysis software and presentation
    • Ability to work independently and make or recommend strategic decisions
    • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience in graphic design, editorial writing, marketing terminology, advertising principles
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
    • Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, efficiently, and effectively
    • The candidate should be a flexible, team player with a strong, customer service-minded work ethic; ability to interact with all levels of faculty, management, and staff

     


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in life sciences, biomedical sciences, or related field; or PhD
  • Previous experience in grant writing and administration
