Position Summary

The Physician Assistant (PA) will join a fast growing service in the Structural Heart & Valve Center. The primary focus of the PA will be to see patients in an outpatient setting. The PA will assess patients in clinic for structural heart disease and collaborate with physicians to implement the appropriate treatment plan. The PA will also have some inpatient responsibilities including handling patient transfers, evaluating patients post procedure as well as evaluating inpatients for possible structural heart disease. The PA will also be instrumental in assisting to develop patient volume, educating potential referring doctors regarding the Center’s capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Coordination of patient evaluation and screening processes
• Evaluate patients in Structural Clinic
• Write clinic notes and letters to referring Physicians
• Review imaging reports and images with attending
• Maintain screening information in the SHVC Database
• Review results with patients and family members
• Schedule patients for their procedure
• Review laboratory results, order appropriate tests and communicate test results with the patients and referring physicians
• Obtain insurance peer-to-peer approval for patient testing and procedures
• Assist with coordinating the agenda for the Structural Heart Multidisciplinary Meeting
• Establishes and maintains communication with other team members and departments to ensure procedures and systems function smoothly as well as promote continuity of care.
• Additional responsibilities include structural heart education and training to staff, care coordination services to patients, families or caregivers.
• Responsible for high level accuracy in all functions of clinic business / patient process flow, from initial intake to final collections for services provided. Track and manage all aspects of care for patients undergoing structural heart procedure work up and coordinate close follow up post operatively.
• Trouble shoots issues that arise between the clinic and other hospital departments working in a collaborative manner to find resolution
• Participates in creating intentional relationships and demonstrates focus attitudes and behaviors that enhance the care experience.
• Obtain informed consent for patients being scheduled for the SHVC procedure
• Travel to offsite clinics as needed
• May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned; (Coordinate patient transfers,See inpatient consults, Participate in inpatient rounds).

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program, plus four years of experience in a hospital setting, preferably in cardiology.
• NCCPA Certification and NY State PA Licensure
• The candidate must be able to work collaboratively within a diverse team of professionals and must be highly organized.
• The candidate must have excellent communication skills and be able to work individually and as part of a team. The candidate must acknowledge that the patient is our highest priority.
• Must be able to manage multiple cross-functional communications and process in a timely manner
• Must have a high degree of professionalism in all communications
• Experience in managing complex schedules
• Ability to travel to off-site clinics

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual (Spanish) helpful but not required

Other Requirements

• Must participate in medical surveillance program.
• Must successfully complete systems training requirements.
