Position Summary
Join our dynamic team at the Structural Heart & Valve Center (Valve Center) as a Physician Assistant (PA). In this role, you will collaborate with an established team of PAs in a rapidly evolving sector of cardiology. This position offers significant growth opportunities and is ideal for someone with two to five years of experience in their career.
The PA will primarily work in the structural heart clinic two days a week, functioning as an integral part of the Heart Team. Duties include assessing patients with structural heart disease, such as aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valve disorders, conducting medical histories, and coordinating patient care with the catheterization lab or operating room. Additionally, the PA will provide support to patients and families throughout the evaluation, procedure, and post-procedural phases. Cross-training opportunities in other roles, both inpatient and outpatient, are also available.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate patient evaluations and screening processes.
- Evaluate patients in Structural Clinic.
- Write clinic notes and letters to referring Physicians.
- Review imaging reports and images with attending.
- Maintain screening information in the SHVC Database.
- Review results with patients and family members.
- Schedule patients for their procedures.
- Review laboratory results, order appropriate tests and communicate test results with the patients and referring physicians.
- Obtain insurance peer-to-peer approval for patient testing and procedures, when needed.
- Assist with coordinating the agenda for the Structural Heart Multidisciplinary Meeting.
- Establish and maintain communication with other team members and departments to ensure procedures and systems function smoothly as well as promote continuity of care.
- Perform structural heart education and training of staff, care coordination services for patients, families or caregivers.
- Responsible for high level accuracy in all functions of clinic business / patient process flow, from initial intake to final collections for services provided.
- Track and manage all aspects of care for patients undergoing structural heart procedure work up and coordinate close follow up post operatively.
- Troubleshoot issues that arise between the clinic and other hospital departments working in a collaborative manner to find resolution.
- Participate in creating intentional relationships and demonstrate focus attitudes and behaviors that enhance the care experience.
- Perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program, plus four years of experience in a hospital experience, preferably in Cardiology
- Current New York State PA license and NCCPA Board Certification
- The candidate must be able to work collaboratively within a diverse team of professionals and must be highly organized
- The candidate must have excellent communication skills and be able to work individually and as part of a team. The candidate must acknowledge that the patient is our highest priority
- Must be able to manage multiple cross-functional communications and process in a timely manner
- Must have a high degree of professionalism in all communications
- Experience in managing complex schedules
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual (Spanish) helpful but not required

- Participation in Medical Surveillance Program
- Contact with patients and/or human research subjects
- Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
- Wear N-95 respirator
- Successful completion of applicable compliance and systems training requirements
