Nurse Practitioner - Cardiology

Position Summary

Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Department of Medicine, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) to work in a very busy cardiology 2‐physician practice within the Division of Cardiology. The NP will provide direct patient care and be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis and management of cardiology inpatients and outpatients.

Responsibilities

• Performing complete patient history and physical.
• Reviewing laboratory tests.
• Providing patient education.
• Monitoring follow-up appointments and testing.
• Coordinating prescription refills.
• Placing Holter and 24-Hour blood pressure monitors.
• Performing ECGs.
• Counseling and educating patients and their caregivers on diseased processes and care management.
• Admitting and discharging patients.
• Documenting all patient and caregiver encounters in the EPIC EMR.
• Perform other responsibilities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires a Master's degree in Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner, plus one to two years of experience.
• Current New York State Registered Professional Nurse and Nurse Practitioner licenses.
• Must be eligible for ANCC board certification.
• Must be able to work a 5‐day work week.
• Excellent clinical, interpersonal and communication (both written and verbal) skills required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in cardiology, advanced heart failure a plus.
• Eligible for ANCC Board Certification in Acute Care.
• Familiarity with CUIMC/NYP.

Other Requirements

• BCLS, ACLS certifications.
• Familiarity and proficiency with computer‐based programs such as electronic medical records systems, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel.
• Participation in Medical Surveillance required.
• Must successfully complete system training requirements.
