Position Summary
The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) and the Northeast Regional Alliance MedPrep HCOP Academy Program (MedPrep) are designed to support undergraduate students who are economically disadvantage and/or identify with groups that have been historically underrepresented within the health professions. The support provided for participating scholars help them to become more competitive applicants to health professions schools. Each year, SHPEP serves 80 scholars while MedPrep is offered to 20 scholars who will be rising college sophomores and juniors at the time of program participation.
A major component of the programs is centered on academic enrichment with a focus on improving of scholars’ performance in pre-health science courses. Supplemental courses are also offered to help scholars strengthen their learning and study skills. Alongside their coursework, scholars participate in practical experiences and career exposure seminars.
SHPEP and MedPrep Preceptors will lead pre-health science courses for class sizes of approximately 20-45 scholars. The cohort will consist of undergraduate students from diverse backgrounds who generally have varying skillsets and require guidance for education advancement and career exploration. Ideal candidates for the SHPEP and MedPrep Preceptor positions are those interested in working with students who fit the demographics previously described. The Preceptor role provides a platform to exercise curriculum construction, provide course instruction, and establish differentiation skills.
