The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Data Analytics, the Junior Risk Analyst will provide data, statistical, and pattern analysis, as well as trend correlation in support of the Department of Public Safety operational, investigative, and administrative functions. 


Responsibilities

  • Assists with collecting and organizing data from various internal sources to support the identification of basic patterns or trends. Prepares initial summaries for review by senior analysts
  • Supports data analysis efforts by running predefined queries, maintaining datasets, and helping compile information related to offenses, calls for service, demographics, and other key metrics. Contributes to quarterly, annual, and ad hoc report preparation under supervision
  • Creates charts, graphics, maps, spreadsheets with coordinated or determined time, place, or sequence of criminal operations or activities based on analysis of data or information. Creates link charts, photo line-ups, and crime bulletins
  • Monitors social media content to analyze any activity that may impact the University
  • Assists with basic data analysis and open source research to help identify preliminary patterns, trends, or issues that support the department's investigative activities. Works under guidance from senior analysts to ensure accuracy and relevance
  • Supports monitoring of social media trends and gathers information that may relate to on campus incidents. Helps compare social media observations with incident data and escalates notable findings for further review
  • Conducts introductory research tasks to support suspect development and trend identification, including requesting or gathering reports from external partners as directed by senior staff
  • Prepares initial drafts of analytical products such as intelligence summaries, simple charts, or basic bulletins based on established templates. More complex analysis is reviewed and refined by senior analysts before dissemination
  • Reviews and summarizes Daily Activity Reports from field operations to support the creation of intelligence bulletins and other informational products. Flags noteworthy items for analyst or supervisor review
  • Assists in producing tactical strategic, and administrative crime and intelligence products that are timely and useful, typically supporting senior analysts or supervisors in the final preparation and distribution
  • Helps compile information for presentations used by decision makers, such as identifying areas with increasing activity. Provides supporting data rather than leading officer deployment recommendations
  • Supports compliance efforts by following established procedures related to criminal intelligence management, accreditation standards (e.g., CALEA, IACLEA, and state or federal regulations). Defers complex compliance decisions to supervisors. 
    completes basic research and support tasks for Patrol and Investigations, including: conducting supervised social media checks, reviewing open source information, assisting with credit report or pubic record research, helping assemble photographic lineups, gathering data for relational or link analysis, and retrieving criminal history or DMV records
  • Maintains awareness of current crime trends and tools at an introductory level by participating in training, reviewing materials, and learning from senior analysts
  • Helps maintain communication with regional partners, such as crime analysts or real time crime centers, typically by sharing routine information or participating in collaborative meetings with supervision
  • Assists with onboarding new employees when needed, providing basic orientation on data entry, file systems, or simple tools
  • Uses software tools with guidance, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Pro, ArcGIS, TL, and other relevant to research, mapping, charting, or reporting. Performs data inputs, basic queries, and template based outputs under supervision 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and or its equivalent
  • 2-4 years of related professional security or law enforcement experience
  • Must be a motivated and organized professional with an attention to detail
  • Must possess good judgement and a high level of discretion due to the sensitivity and nature of work
  • Ability to work in an independent environment with minimal direct supervision
  • Must be able to complete tasks and meet established deadlines
  • Ability to plan and carry out the successive steps and handles problems and deviations in the work assignment in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training or accepted practices in the job. The work includes varied duties requiring many different and unrelated processes and methods applied to a broad range of activities or substantial depth of analysis
  • Ability to make informed decisions and deal with major areas of uncertainty in approach, methodology, or interpretation and evaluation processes resulting from such elements as continuing changes in program, technological developments, or conflicting requirements. Work requires originating new techniques, establishing criteria or developing new information
  • Must possess demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and productively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Writing skills assessment may be required.
  • Strong computer skills, including high proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Word; Adobe Pro, SSRS, ArcGIS, TLO, Whooster, Lead-On-Line, Tyler Technology, etc. 
  • Proven ability to work in a client-service environment
