The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, Strategic Engagement, the Health Communications Associate contributes to the coordination, execution, maintenance, and project management of communications for Columbia Health—Columbia University’s student health services serving the Morningside, Manhattanville, and select affiliate campuses. This role exercises independent decision-making to guide and help advance communications deliverables across a range of service areas, including medical services, mental health, disability access, health promotion, student health insurance, sexual violence prevention, and organizational initiatives.  

This is an essential staff, on-site, six-month temporary role.  Please note that visa sponsorship is NOT available for this role. 


Responsibilities

  • General Communications (40%) 

    • Preparing new staff welcome kit, including email and website updates  
    • Triaging incoming communications requests and monitoring student media  
    • Liaising with on- and off-campus vendors (print, custom materials, signage, etc.) 
    • Review and update onsite signage in conjunction with the Facilities Manager  
    • Provide copy-editing support, link and QR code function checking for digital and print deliverables 
    • Support the departmental editorial calendar 

     Digital Communications (35%) 

    • Updating website content and digital signage  
    • Designing and deploying email communications (Mailchimp)  
    • Maintaining the Columbia Health Creative Catalog 
    • Support divisional and department social media content 

     Outreach & Events (20%) 

    • Supporting outreach and promotional efforts through school- and University-wide channels  
    • Representing Columbia Health at student facing events and tabling sessions  
    • Supporting new student orientation 
    • Assisting with all aspects of internal and external event and meeting logistics (in person and virtual, including webinars)  
    • Taking inventory of marketing materials and office supplies  

    Perform other duties as assigned (5%) 


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent experience. 
  • 0-2 years of direct experience in communications, marketing, public affairs, or very closely related roles.  
  • Website management experience, including editing and publishing via a CMS.  
  • Email marketing experience.  
  • Strong organizational and project tracking skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.  
  • Experience coordinating with external vendors, including print, creative, or technical partners.  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex topics for student audiences.  
  • Comfort representing an organization at outreach, tabling, and expo-style events.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. 
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and anticipate needs across concurrent projects.  
  • Commitment to advancing student health and well-being and contributing to a collaborative, supportive organizational culture.  

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with health communications, health promotion, or well-being related topics.  
  • Experience with graphic design and video editing tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, iMovie).  
  • Experience using  PowerAutomate, Microsoft Forms, or similar workflow tools.  
  • Formal project management experience or training.  
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education or non-profit organizations.
  • Direct experience with Drupal, Mailchimp, Zoom/Teams, and similar systems.
