The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Financial Coordinator will report to the Assistant Director as part of the Capital Finance group within Columbia University Facilities and Operations (CUFO) which is responsible for a wide array of tasks related to the financial reporting and controls for all capital projects. The Financial Coordinator will assist the Assistant Director with the oversight and management of the capital plan for the Manhattanville Expansion and Property Acquisition portfolios of capital projects and investments. These portfolios average $172M annually.


Responsibilities

  • Responsible for interpreting and communicating established University policies for the various departments within CUFO. This may include written policy statements for distribution to all CUFO employees and clients and individual guidance for funding approval, budgeting, or other individual transactions.
  • Maintains strong working relationships with stakeholders in multiple departments.
  • Assists with the accounting structure of capital projects within the University financial accounting system, the creation and access management of projects created, and verification of key information and metrics, financial reporting, and financial closeout and reconciliation of projects within the Facilities’ project management system.
  • Assists with the maintenance and generation of project cash flow for reporting to the Office of Management & Budget.
  • Assists with the entry, modification, and reporting, and analytics of the capital plan using excel and the financial planning platform, including assisting with variance analysis of capital plan values, project funding requests, post-bid awards, and final project cost.
  • Assists with variance financial variance analyses identified through different methods including but not limited to, advanced Excel analysis using unique identifiers, Power BI reporting, and direct review within the different systems to confirm correct accounting of financials.
  • Assists with the maintenance of compelling reports and dashboards to track financials.
  • Conducts data analyses, prepares financial information, and provides ad hoc reporting for a wide variety of internal clients.
  • Responsible for the accurate and prompt processing, verification, and financial approval of expenses for all invoices, purchase orders, change orders, potential change orders, and other financial transactions within the University financial accounting systems and project management and work order systems amounting to hundreds of thousands of dollars per fiscal year.
  • Additional responsibilities will include:
    • Assists with the management of the submission of insurance claims to Risk Management.
    • Oversees the reporting of the breakdown by component by project to the Controller for depreciation purposes.
    • Reconcile the billing of project management, internal design, and commissioning fees, and additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent required, plus a minimum of 0-2 years related experience required including experience or major in finance, budgeting, business administration, economics, and/or accounting with advanced Excel and statistical analysis skills. 
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow through with assigned tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Ability to exercise solid judgment and establish priorities for workload.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
