The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Director for the Mitral and Tricuspid Center is a mixed administrative and clinical role within the Structural Heart & Valve Center (SHVC). This position combines strategic leadership responsibilities with clinical duties as a Physician Assistant (PA). Administratively, the Director will oversee operational management of mitral and tricuspid disease programs, ensuring excellence in patient experience, quality, and safety. Under the guidance of SHVC leadership, the Director will develop and implement strategies to enhance the Center’s visibility, optimize referral pathways, increase clinic and procedure volumes, and support clinical trial recruitment. The Director will also lead educational and training initiatives and foster innovation and research in the field of mitral and tricuspid valve disease. Clinically, the PA will function as an integral member of the Heart Team, primarily working in the structural heart clinic one to two days per week. Responsibilities include patient assessment, coordination of care, and providing support throughout evaluation, procedure, and recovery phases.
Responsibilities
Administrative and Operational Responsibilities
- Provide exemplary oversight of patient care and clinical management, ensuring personalized interventions for mitral and tricuspid disease.
- Implement and continuously improve clinical protocols and workflows for optimized outcomes.
- Foster collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, surgeons, heart failure specialists, echocardiographers, electrophysiologists, and APPs.
- Develop and execute community outreach strategies and maintain strong relationships with referring physicians and institutions.
- Collaborate with industry partners to develop training sessions and attend investigator meetings.
- Lead marketing initiatives to elevate the Center’s visibility and attract patients.
- Monitor patient volumes, trial recruitment, and procedure metrics; report trends to leadership.
- Collaborate on strategic planning, budgeting, and operational goal setting.
- Provide quarterly reports summarizing progress and strategic insights.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate staff; assist with recruitment and onboarding.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Conduct chart reviews and summarize patient information prior to clinic days.
- Assess patients with structural heart disease, focusing on mitral and tricuspid valve disorders.
- Educate patients and families about conditions, treatment options, and associated risks.
- Review pre-procedural and post-operative test results and communicate findings.
- Assist in discharge planning and follow-up visits.
- Participate in weekly care coordination meetings and contribute to referral pathway development.
- Support patients and families throughout evaluation, procedure, and recovery phases.
- Cross-train in other inpatient and outpatient roles as needed.
- Perform other duties as directed by SHVC leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus one to two years of related experience.
- Current New York State PA license and NCCPA Board Certification.
- Current BLS, ACLS, DEA, and NPI certificates.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work collaboratively within a diverse team.
- Excellent communication skills, both independently and within a team setting.
- Commitment to patient-centered care and professionalism.
- Experience in managing complex schedules.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and resolve conflicts effectively.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and general office software.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior administrative, management, or leadership experience in a healthcare environment strongly preferred.

- Potential bloodborne pathogen exposure
- Must successfully complete applicable systems and trainings requirements
