The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons Office of Development (VP&S OOD), a part of the Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC), is dedicated to facilitating relationships that support the vision and mission of CUIMC and VP&S: to transform health by driving discovery, advancing care, and educating leaders.


Position Summary

The Development Associate for Pediatrics reports to the Executive Director of Development and will be responsible for scheduling meetings (with follow up preparation of agenda as required and notification to participants); writing and coordinating the production of donor pledge and stewardship reports, and assisting the Associate Director of Development with writing assignments including acknowledgment letters; drafting own correspondence for review by supervisor; processing gift transmittals; tracking financials for annual Children’s Health fundraising events; assisting with prospect research and proposals; and supporting overall development efforts for Children’s Health at Columbia. The incumbent will serve as a local expert for other staff. The incumbent will work to standardize and streamline common business practices across the Pediatrics team. The incumbent will coordinate and manage database entry and maintain donor lists including assurance of database accuracy; maintain files and database portfolio; interact with internal and external constituencies; assist with vendor and site inquiry for special events as well as organize and coordinate events; troubleshoot when necessary; perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.


Responsibilities

  • Writing and coordinating the production of donor and pledge and stewardship reports and assisting the Associate Director of Development with writing assignments including acknowledgment letters. – 25%
  • Processing gift transmittals; tracking financials for annual Children’s Health fundraising events. – 20%
  • Scheduling appointments and meetings; with preparation of agenda as required, notification to participants, and appropriate follow-up. – 15%
  • Assisting with prospect research and proposal development; coordinating and managing database entry; interacting with internal and external constituencies. – 15%
  • Maintain donor lists including assurance of database accuracy; maintain files and database portfolio. – 10%
  • Assist with vendor and site inquiry for special events as well as organize and coordinate events, including volunteer committee meetings. – 10%
  • Troubleshoot and perform other related duties and special projects as assigned. – 5%

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus three years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced SharePoint user experience and Salesforce and Athena/Advance (or similar fundraising database) experience preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills and have ability to exercise excellent judgment, tact, confidentiality, and diplomacy in all interactions.
  • Must be able to lead and teach peers; identify and improve common day-to-day tasks with peers.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Must be able to accurately handle diverse projects and a large volume of detailed work simultaneously and use good judgment in prioritizing work.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work with management information systems and software systems.
  • Superior Excel, MS Office skills, and experience with fundraising CRM, preferably Salesforce required.
