The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Trust Collaboratory (TC) is one of the first institutions in the nation dedicated to the social dynamics of trust, the Trust Collaboratory draws on the expertise of scholars at Columbia University as well as external stakeholders, including journalists, community advocates, non-profit professionals, policy experts, and policymakers in NYC and beyond. The Trust Collaboratory advances pioneering knowledge on what is needed to maintain and foster trust in a democratic society through education, public engagement, and collaborative partnerships in a number of areas such as medicine and science, media and journalism, and information technology, artificial intelligence, and algorithms.

TC incites applications for the position of Community Outreach Program Coordinator to support its community engagement and research activities and provide instructional and research capacity to the center’s partner organization at Columbia University, the Center for Smart Streetscapes (CS3). This position will contribute to the development of responsible co-design processes for community AI and streetscape technology initiatives. The Community Outreach Program Coordinator will work closely with research teams at both centers to organize and execute community engagement activities, facilitate research, and manage administrative responsibilities related to the grant. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in community outreach, social science research methods, and education programming.

This is a one-year position, with the possibility of extension, contingent on continuous funding.


Responsibilities

Trust Collaboratory ReDDDoT Research

1. Community Outreach

  • Planning, scheduling, and organizing of community-based events and activities.
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement and partnerships.

2. Research and Analysis

  • Contributing to social science methodology via surveys, interviews, focus groups, etc.
  • Collecting and categorizing research notes and materials.
  • Assisting with IRB-related tasks.
  • Assisting with literature reviews and write-ups for scholarly publications.

3. Administrative Responsibilities 

  • Planning, organizing, and managing on-site events.
  • Coordinate communications with stakeholders at Columbia and beyond.
  • Coordinating schedules and team meetings.
  • Maintaining calendar of engagement activities.
  • Supporting TC’s high-school program (recrutiment, admission, planning, administration).

 

Center for Smart Streetscapes

1. Instructional Support 

  • Providing support in student recruitment, admissions, and planning of CS3 summer institute program.
  • Teaching CS3 summer institute program and working closely with high school students.

2. Research and Analysis

  • Assisting in documenting community engagement work of CS3 according to NSF requirements.
  • Supporting training staff and faculty on community engagement processes.
  • Overseeing the successful collection of survey data.
  • Assisting in data analysis of survey results.
  • Drafting sections of reports and articles.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent related experience required.
  • 0-2 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree within Social Sciences.
  • Proven track record in community engagement within an academic setting.
  • Experience in K-12 education or research.
  • Familiarity with smart city technology research.
