Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Operations, the Registered Nurse is responsible for the direct provision and coordination of nursing care within our state-of-the-art Urology Procedural Area, encompassing four modern and well-equipped procedure rooms. This includes managing procedure room setup and turnover, maintaining inventory of supplies and medications, performing and assisting in a variety of urologic procedures, and ensuring proper instrument sterilization and high-level disinfection (HLD). This is a dynamic, hands-on role requiring the RN to be actively involved in running the rooms, assisting physicians (including first assist duties), and managing the procedural environment. The RN will support procedures such as cystoscopies, prostate biopsies, urodynamic studies (UDS), circumcisions, fertility procedures, and vasectomies, utilizing technologies like Fusion and C-arm fluoroscopy. The RN will work closely with urologists, other clinical staff, and administrative personnel to deliver safe, efficient, and patient-centered care, contributing to positive health outcomes and a collaborative work environment focused on continuous movement and activity.

Responsibilities

Procedural Room Management:

• Prepare and manage four urology procedure rooms, ensuring efficient setup, turnover, and readiness between cases. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe procedural environment.

Direct Patient Care & Procedural Assistance:

• Actively assist physicians during urologic procedures, including cystoscopies, circumcisions, fertility procedures prostate biopsies, and vasectomies.
• Function as a first assistant during procedures as required and within the scope of RN practice.
• Assess patient status pre-procedure, monitor patients intra-procedure, and provide post-procedure care, discharge instructions, and patient/family education.

Technical Skills:

• Manage high-level disinfection (HLD) of semi-critical instruments using Trophon devices according to manufacturer guidelines and institutional policy.
• Manage sterilization of critical instruments using autoclaves, including proper preparation, loading, operation, and documentation.

Supply and Medication Management:

• Maintain adequate stock levels of medical supplies, instruments, and medications within the procedural area. Responsible for ordering, receiving, stocking, and inventory management, including monitoring expiration dates.

Documentation:

• Accurately and thoroughly document all aspects of patient care, procedures performed, medications administered, supplies used, and instrument processing logs in Epic and other required records.

Infection Control:

• Ensure strict adherence to infection control standards, sterile technique, and universal precautions within the procedural environment. Maintain compliance with institutional policies and regulatory requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, DOH).

Collaboration & Communication:

•  Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, medical assistants, schedulers, and administrative staff to ensure smooth patient flow and coordinated care.
• Handle patient communications (phone, patient portal, in-person) related to procedural questions, pre-operative instructions, or post-operative concerns as needed.

Safety & Quality:

• Assist with management of urgent and emergent patient situations within the procedural setting.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, time-outs, and safety checks related to the procedural area.

Other Duties:

• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the Urology Procedural Area.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent in education and experience.
• Minimum of four (4) years of related nursing experience.
• Current, unrestricted New York State RN License.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred within 6 months of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a procedural setting (e.g., OR, Endoscopy, Interventional Radiology) or Urology is strongly preferred
