The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Department of Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health seeks a candidate for Program Manager for the Center for Climate and Health: Action and Research for Transformational Change (CHART). CHART’s mission and overarching aim is to launch a transformative and integrative framework for climate health research, from molecules to populations, that drives evidence-based, impactful solutions. Our vision is to create the premier intellectual hub and operational infrastructure for climate and health research across Columbia University's departments and schools, the communities we serve, and partners, collaborators, agencies, and stakeholders in the U.S. and globally.
Under minimal direction, the Program Manager serves as the point person for coordinating a wide range of research and administrative tasks for the Center. With much autonomy, the Manager will assist, coordinate, and oversee the fiscal, technical, and programmatic aspects of Center-related projects. This will require regular communication and consultation with the Center Directors and other key personnel working on Center-related projects, as well as other collaborators.
Responsibilities
Serve as the day-to-day manager of the Center for Climate and Health: Action and Research for Transformational Change, working closely with the Department Administrator.
- Responsible for planning and organizing quarterly Center meetings, a monthly seminar series, bimonthly Executive Committee meetings, an annual Center Retreat followed by an External Advisory Meeting, and other related Center events, workshops, and mentoring activities.
- Prepare agendas and minutes for all meetings.
- Maintain and update the content of the Center website, prepare the quarterly Center’s newsletter, serve as a liaison for news communication with the funder and Columbia’s Mailman School Communication office, and contribute to other communication activities.
- Responsible for preparing Center progress reports, carryover letters, and human subjects’ packages for pilot proposals.
- Keep track of the overall Center budget and quarterly sponsored attestation.
- Serve as the Pcard and Corporate card holder to assist the Center projects and cores with orders and event reservations. Initiate reimbursements associated to the Center.
- Track the Center members’ Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocols.
- Ensure all National Institutes of Health (NIH) guidelines for Open Access to Center publications are followed.
- Administer the Pilot Projects Program within the Center under the leadership of the program director.
- Also serve as the administrative liaison to the Center’s Community Engagement Core (CEC) and work with the co-directors to oversee the work of the Center community partners. Organize meetings with community partners and joint community events, forums, workshops, and town hall briefings. Prepare agendas and minutes for all meetings.
- Put together quarterly newsletters to highlight member publications and to translate Center research findings to the community. Inform the funding agency of Center events, major research findings, CEC activities and media coverage by members.
- Perform other department duties as needed.
This in-person position is based in Washington Heights, NYC.
This is a grant-funded position.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in a related field of study (e.g., public health, environmental health sciences, project/program management).
- Familiar with Institutional Review board protocols, databases, etc.
Other Requirements
- Demonstrated achievement in project and program management, as well as organizational and follow-through skills.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team to execute complex tasks under demanding deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with varied internal and external collaborators.
- Detailed-oriented with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and follow up.
- Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of people at different levels is necessary, as well as to work in a highly visible, fast-paced environment, all under the aegis of confidentiality.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, standard platforms for website building.
