The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Biomedical Engineer, the Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist will be responsible for the overall upkeep and maintenance of the College of Dental Medicine's large and small clinical equipment. Working with and under the guidance of the Biomedical Engineer, the incumbent should bring their own knowledge to the position as well as build on that background by attending trainings and workshops. This role will interact with all areas of the College of Dental Medicine including students, staff, faculty and administrative leadership.
Responsibilities
The Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Installation & removal of equipment – i.e., dental chairs, X-ray units, vacuums, compressors.
- Diagnose, Repair, maintain, calibrate and inspect a wide range of dental equipment including intra oral cameras, digital sensors, sterilization systems, cad/cam machines, hand pieces, Etc.
- Maintain documentation on equipment, technical manuals, inspections, equipment repairs and failures.
- Schedule and oversee third party vendors accommodate repairs as necessary.
- Perform preventative maintenance.
- Ship returns and receive deliveries of parts needed for repairs.
- Maintain adequate parts depot and small equipment inventory.
- Use work order system from assignment to close out.
- Maintain databases and acting as liaison to numerous vendors for technical support.
- Maintain good personal relationships with fellow workers, Faculty, Students, vendors, manufacturers and general public.
- Participate in meetings, trainings, workshops, and conferences as required.
- Prepare and administer hands on training to staff and students.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Electrical:
- Monitor and analyze electrical systems.
- Update electrical components,
- Repair broken wiring and equipment Components
- Analyze, tests electrical wiring and data systems.
- Perform calibrations for placement of electronic components.
Plumbing:
- Repairs to water line (copper, plastic, and flex tubes)
- Repair and replace; Compression fitting, quick connects, washer and shutoff valves…etc.
- Familiarity with Handheld, and Power tools for various applications (Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical, etc.)
Computer Systems:
- To maintain the databases and spreadsheets for data analysis
- To help in the process of troubleshooting systems, and workstations (Dental Chair)
- To make the systems ready for workstations for staffs, Student and Doctors.
- They should be up-to-date and current with system data, changes, and updates.
- The technician should forward issues to suitable resource.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus two years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering or similar degree
- Familiar with Dental equipment brands included but not limited to, Adec, Pelton & Crane, Planmeca, Progeny, Gendex, Instrumentarium, Kavo, Dentsply, DentalEz, Nevins, and Bien Air.
- Knowledge of equipment Software and Firmware.
- Knowledge of department policies, procedures and standards as well as general applications such as email, database management, spreadsheet and word processing software
- Knowledge of basic networking, data cabling, low voltage cabling
- Concentration, focus and attention to detail.
- Resourcefulness and problem-solving abilities.
- Trades certificate or equivalent experience is desirable.
- Experience in Dental field is preferred.
Other Requirements
- Occasional heavy lifting.
- Flexible working hours will be required, including evenings and weekends.
- Possible hazards include but not limited to, exposure to electrical shock, ionizing radiation, chemicals and chemical fumes, high-pressure air, and infectious disease.
