The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Billing Manager, the Billing Analyst plays an integral role in supporting the timely and accurate processing of billing and cost recovery related activities for Columbia University Information Technology (CUIT). This customer-facing role leverages multiple systems and resources in order to accomplish tasks and requires courteous, professional and accurate dissemination of information to Columbia University and our affiliate community.


Responsibilities

  • Reviews, analyzes and processes all incoming billing requests and completes the required financial transactions with precision and in a timely manner.
  • Completes work in accordance with University financial accounting calendars.
  • Works efficiently with service owners, customers, and finance colleagues when there are issues with the billing request and assures proper and timely closure.
  • Maintains proficiency in multiple systems, including PeopleSoft Financials, Pinnacle Billing, ServiceNow, and other systems as required.
  • Works with the CUIT Systems Administrator, developing the ability to support billing systems operations in coordination with the Billing Team.
  • Conducts thorough analysis and verifies customer, department, and CUIT information is always accurate.
  • Executes various administrative duties associated with billing operations, including running and analyzing reports necessary for sound operations and reconciliation of billing errors.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent experience is required.
  • Minimum 2-4 years’ related experience.
  • 2+ years experience in an accounts receivable, billing and/or accounting department.
  • Ability to engage with non-financial technical staff and develop a solid working knowledge about the services offered by CUIT.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Aptitude for learning about systems and operations.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Exhibit good judgment and use discretion with confidential data at all times.
  • Ability to execute professional business communications (email and other modalities).
  • Ability to work with changing priorities.
  • Ability to be precise with regard to financial transactions is essential.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Competency in the Google suite of applications, and MS Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, financial management or related field.
  • Systems administration experience.
  • Experience in an IT work environment.
  • Experience in a higher-education work environment.
