The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
 

Position Summary

Supports the Manager of Facilities in all aspects of day-to-day facilities operations and is competent to sustain department operations in the manager’s absence, especially including critical and emergency operations on a 24/7 basis. Broad responsibilities include operation, maintenance, construction and renovation of the campus buildings and grounds, and interdepartmental coordination to ensure compliance with codes and regulations. Specific responsibilities involve supporting the supervision of maintenance work force, procurement of supplies & services, and project management, including forecasting and cost tracking.


Responsibilities

  • Participates in creating plans and specifications for the services of outside contractors, obtains competitive bids, supervises job progress, checks completed job for contract compliance and quality control, approves disbursements. Maintains records for reference and review. This includes minor and major service contracts as well as capital construction. The ability to read blueprints and understand shop drawings is essential.
  • Responsible for commissioning of new buildings and maintaining optimal performance of all building and supporting systems. In conjunction with the Manager of Facilities helps to direct repair and replacement of all infrastructure components and maintains preventative maintenance schedule and records. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment, including computerized control and management systems, is essential.
  • Remains on call for emergency response 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Emergencies include weather related emergencies (snow and ice removal, wind and rain damage), power outages, critical infrastructure malfunctions, hazardous material spills, and fire & smoke damage. Participates in campus emergency operations planning and training. Maintains a positive professional working relationship with outside emergency responders, including police, fire, highway, building department, and public utility officials.
  • Interviews, trains, and helps to prepare work assignments for and with staff; ensures adequate tools and materials are on hand. Meets with scientific and support staff to understand, define and establish their needs for new space and facility improvements. Participates as required in managerial staff and various committee meetings.
  • Assures work force is provided with necessary safety training and personal protective equipment and exercises best practices for accident prevention. Performs other duties as required.
  • Responsible for administering the MAXIMO system including creating, assigning, and completing work requests.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required and minimum of 2-4 years related experience with 1 year of supervisory experience included.  Has a workable knowledge of the Campus BMS system.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree desirable.
