The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

Reporting to the Faculty Director of the Center for Korean Research (CKR) and with the supervision of the Executive Director of the Weatherhead East Asian Institute (WEAI), the incumbent is responsible for coordinating the administrative functions of the Center for Korean Research.

WEAI is a hub for the study of modern and contemporary East, Southeast, and Inner Asia at Columbia University. It is an integrated center for research and teaching. The Institute brings together faculty, research scholars, and students from across the university and advances knowledge and understanding of the region through academics, research programs, renowned publications series, and a robust calendar of public events.

Responsibilities

Center Operations

  • Oversee the general administration of the Center for Korean Research and handle the Center’s day-to-day operations and initiatives, ensuring all practices follow University and Institute policies and procedures.
  • In close collaboration with the CKR Director, develop strategic and operational goals, maintain Center by-laws and membership lists.

Event Planning

  • Collaborate with faculty to design and deliver a roster of events, workshops, and conferences in line with Center priorities and goals.
  • Lead event management, covering the full life-cycle of each program, from RFP development and program design to advertising, logistics, vendor payments, and reporting.

Financial Operations

  • Process the Center’s day-to-day financial requests, including check requests for vendor contracts, and reconcile expenses.
  • Develop and track project budgets following University and funder guidelines on spending.
  • Partner with the WEAI finance office to maintain an understanding of the health of general center finances and develop the annual budget.
  • Prepare regular program financial reporting required by sponsors and support directors in donor management and fundraising, including grant writing and preparation, statistical compilation, and donor reporting.

Publicity and Communications

  • Maintain a robust communications presence on digital and print platforms; manage the CKR website and social media content using various software platforms, including Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and related tools; and track analytics for all digital platforms.
  • Maintain a cooperative working relationship with the University’s Communications and Public Affairs Office.
  • Exercise editorial oversight for the content and design of the Center’s website and other public interfaces, including eNewsletters, event flyers, display boxes, noticeboards, and appropriate representation in scholarly and professional directories and journals.
  • Responsible for creating, curating, and distributing fliers, press releases, news articles, videos, slide decks, and publicity materials relating to all aspects of the Center’s programming.
  • Participate in planning and implementation with faculty to ensure that programs and projects are appropriately represented in the public domain.
  • Draft remarks and communications and prepare talking points for the Center Director.

Academic and HR Operations

  • Act as a liaison between CKR and the wider campus community, including faculty, researchers, and students.
  • Cultivate collaboration between the CKR and campus student groups through outreach and financial support of programs.
  • Work with WEAI staff to process instructional and research appointments for Center-sponsored fellows, researchers, and adjunct faculty members.
  • Work with WEAI staff to hire and manage student casuals and temp workers, as needed.
  • Interview, train, and supervise student workers
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years of related experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in Korea or with Korean entities.
  • Prior experience in higher education administration.
  • Familiarity with web-based or desktop publishing technologies a plus.
  • Knowledge of Korean language.
