Position Summary

The State Pre-College Enrichment Program (S-PREP) is a free high school and college preparation program for 7th -12th grade students who reside in New York City. The objective of the program is to increase the number of underrepresented students pursuing careers in healthcare or related STEM professions. The program offers academic enrichment courses that are designed to prepare students for success in math and science. The program also offers career development workshops, college advisement services, field trips and college tours.

Program Facilitators for the S-PREP program will support/lead math, science and elective courses for middle and high school students. Program participants come from diverse backgrounds and generally have varying academic skill sets. Ideal candidates for the S-PREP Program Facilitator position are those interested in working with students and providing academic enrichment. This is a great opportunity to exercise curriculum construction, establishing/executing course instruction and differentiation skills. Course offerings will include, but may not be limited to Algebra, Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry, Ready for Pre-Med, Computer Science and College Readiness.


Responsibilities

Program Facilitators will report to the SPREP Program Administrators within the Office of Student Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the preparation of program sessions including classes, special events and other program related activities
  • Assisting Preceptor(s) with general classroom management and keeping course materials up to date.
  • If the main Instructor is not available, the facilitator should be prepared to cover courses and lead the class.
  • Grading quizzes, exams, and other course assignments
  • Providing feedback regarding students’ participation for summer evaluations
  • Assisting with the execution of the S-PREP workshop series and special events
  • Monitoring student attendance for respective course(s)
  • Collaborating with Program Administrators to chaperone selected college visits and field trips
  • Attending all special program events including opening and closing ceremonies as well as conferences
  • Providing recommendations for program improvements
  • Completing administrative/clerical duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous teaching experience.

Other Requirements

  • Education and training in science and/or mathematics 
  • Demonstration of leadership and organization skills
