Position Summary

The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a highly organized and enthusiastic technician to join the Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine (CALM).

The primary responsibilities of this position include: participation in day-to-day laboratory research projects under the direction of the Principal Investigator and lab manager. Skills frequently utilized to complete daily tasks include: basic lab skills (e.g. pipetting, loading a gel), phlebotomy, and sterile technique

A successful candidate will be a self-starter, work well within teams, have excellent organizational and record keeping skills, and be able to multi-task while maintaining precision and quickness.


Responsibilities

  • 25% - Collecting samples
  • 25% - Processing samples
  • 20% - Recording/analyzing data
  • 15% - General lab maintenance
  • 10% - Running samples
  • 5% - Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher)
  • Prior lab experience is a plus including mouse colony experience
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work in teams, good interpersonal skills Ideal candidate will be highly motivated, highly organized, able to multi-task, take initiative, start and complete projects, and have impeccable record keeping skills.
