Position Summary

The Laboratory of Dr. Angela Christiano, in the Departments of Dermatology and Genetics & Development at Columbia University, is seeking a highly motivated candidate to join the laboratory research team as Laboratory Technician. The laboratory focuses on investigating mechanisms of normal skin biology (cellular senescence) and disease (alopecia areata, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, epidermolysis bullosa). The candidate will work under the direct supervision of a research scientist and participate as part of a larger group focused on senescence, immune and inflammatory skin diseases and skin cancer.


Responsibilities

  • Isolation of primary skin cells from human skin specimens and in vitro cell culture.
  • Organization and maintenance of cellular and tissue biobank.
  • Generation of 3D engineered skin, cartilage and other tissues.
  • Directed differentiation of iPSCs into skin-specific cell types and skin organoids.
  • Perform simple and multiplexed immunofluorescence and spatial transcriptomics.
  • Detailed record keeping of all lab activities including the planned experiments.
  • Maintenance of tissue culture room and equipment.
  • Data organization for storage, presentations and publications.
  • Ordering, inventory and other duties necessary to the functioning of research projects.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in laboratory science (Biology, Chemistry, etc.). or equivalent in education, training and experience.

Other Requirements

  • The candidate must be familiar with basic laboratory techniques including sterile cell culture.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to keep detailed and accurate records of experimental results and to work independently.
  • Experience with photoshop, R, graphpad is a strength, as well as computational analysis of single-cell RNAseq and spatial transcriptomics.
