Position Summary

This position will be in support of a BBRF Young Investigator award and an NIMH K23 award using electronic health record (EHR) data from the Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) to identify phenotypes among individuals with schizophrenia and bipolar spectrum disorders, and personalized treatments for individuals with those phenotypic characteristics. At a minimum, the position will involve data management including data harmonization (formatting and cleaning datasets to be used in data analytics programs such as R, SAS or python), construction of derived variables specifically for these projects, and summary statistics to present to the PI for review. Advanced statistical analyses associated with the projects’ aims can also be undertaken with PI supervision.


Responsibilities

  • Harmonize EHR data into a format that can be used with SAS, R, python or other statistical programs 45%.
  • Construct derived data variables to be analyzed for these specific awards 40%.
  • Calculate descriptive statistics of variables to be analyzed for these specific awards 10%.
  • Create data visualizations of descriptive statistics 5%.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology or physics or related science or equivalent in education, training and experience. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year experience using statistical programs for research activities
  • Graduate level degree in biostatistics or bioinformatics
  • Assist with analyzing large electronic health record data, claims data or other clinical administrative data
  • Constructing derived longitudinal variables with large clinical administrative datasets
  • Psychiatric epidemiology or related mental health research experience

  • Experience using statistical programs
