Position Summary

The ISSO (International Students and Scholars Office) at Columbia University seeks a Social Media Assistant. Duties include assisting ISSO’s Communications Team in creating graphics and social media posts (video and still) for Columbia students, faculty, and departments and assisting in weekly social media posts and content.

Our ideal candidate is someone who is detail-oriented, creative, proactive, and organized, who is proficient at scheduling a multitude of social media posts as well as creating event recaps and Instagram reels. The position is approximately 20 hours/week, $18/hour to start.


Responsibilities

  • Develop social media content, visuals, and strategy for ISSO social media channels (video and still graphics)
  • Evaluate concurrent promotions with dynamic content and deadlines to manage posting priorities
  • Create graphics and designs for web and print
  • Schedule all ISSO social media posts (nearly one post a day - all year round)
  • Work with ISSO staff to edit reels (editing, sound, text/graphic overlays)
  • Assist and take direction from the Senior Assistant Director for Communications but also work alongside broader ISSO teams
  • Collaborate with ISSO teams on projects and campaigns that share student, scholar, and family experiences, events, and initiatives

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a currently enrolled Columbia University student
  • Must have demonstrated experience in scheduling and arranging social media posts (including managing a social media calendar)
  • Medium to strong video and sound editing/production skills
  • Experience in Adobe Photoshop
  • Experience with Canva
  • Excellent English language written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Must be open to a hybrid work schedule (some days in person at our Armstrong office, W 112th and Broadway, and some days remotely)
  • Must be available for weekly team meetings (date determined upon start)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to organize information
  • Previous social media work including scheduling content via platforms such as Buffer is a plus
  • Experience in media/design for international students and scholars is a plus
