Position Summary

The Columbia University Medical Center, Department of Neurology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner I in the Multiple Sclerosis Center. Under the supervision of the attending MS Neurologists, the NP will be responsible for the evaluation and ongoing management of individuals with multiple sclerosis and related disease states. 


Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive histories and physical exams,
  • Management of neurologic symptoms, monitoring for medication tolerability and adherence, and coordinating care among team of practitioners
  • Coordinate admissions and discharges of inpatients on occasion,
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, manage routine visits independently and more complex visits in collaboration with the attending physician,
  • Manage inquiries and patient concerns over the phone and patient communication portal,
  • Participate in performance of clinical trials.
  • Other related duties as assigned/required.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of relevant nursing experience.
  • A current New York State NP and RN license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in neurologic patient care.
  • Able to meet New York-Presbyterian Hospital credentialing requirements, prior to starting.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic Lumbar Puncture or willingness to learn is required.
  • Experience in an academic medical center.
  • Experience in Multiple Sclerosis nursing is preferred, but not required.
  • Spanish proficiency.
