Position Summary

Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a Clinical Coordinator III (RN) to join the Bone Marrow Transplant team within the Division of Hematology/Oncology. This role delivers comprehensive patient care and education while supporting clinical operations and patient management, reporting directly to the Outpatient Oncology Nursing Directors.


Responsibilities

  • Support the outpatient management of BMT/Cell Therapy patients in collaboration with MD/NP/PA providers
  • Assist with bone marrow procedures, including sterile setup, specimen collection, documentation, and patient monitoring
  • Coordinate all phases of the patient journey—from consultation through treatment and recovery
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments in person, by phone, and via the EMR
  • Oversee daily patient needs in clinic/infusion, including labs, test results, symptoms, and treatment planning
  • Partner with infusion and inpatient teams to ensure seamless care and accurate scheduling
  • Develop and deliver patient education related to oncology care and treatments
  • Address psychosocial needs of patients and caregivers
  • Provide compassionate, evidence‑based nursing care
  • Communicate patient needs to MD/NP/PA in a timely, clinically appropriate manner
  • Complete prior authorizations as needed
  • Prepare and review treatment calendars with patients
  • Incorporate cultural sensitivity and diversity into all aspects of care
  • Actively participate in a multidisciplinary team to support continuity of care
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience, plus four years of related clinical experience.
  • Current New York State RN license and BLS certification.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced clinical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in medical oncology or bone marrow transplant (BMT).

Other Requirements

  • Medical clearance and participation in the medical surveillance program:
    • Direct patient contact and/or interaction with human research subjects.
    • Use of N-95 respirator as needed.
    • Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
  • Successful completion of all required compliance and systems training.
