Job Description

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons is seeking a full-time, board-certified or board-eligible hospitalist to join the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology at the rank of Assistant Clinical Obstetrician Gynecologist or Associate Clinical Obstetrician Gynecologist, commensurate with experience. This position will provide the full spectrum of inpatient women's health services to the communities we serve in Westchester and the Bronx, New York.

We welcome applicants who are experienced OBGYN specialists with an inpatient focus or with demonstrated expertise in hospital-based obstetric care. The qualified candidate may have completed an OBGYN Hospitalist Fellowship or be an experienced obstetrician.

The candidate will report directly to the Director of Labor and Delivery at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Chief of Obstetrics. The successful candidate will play an integral role in advancing the Department's mission of clinical excellence, quality improvement, patient safety, and operational effectiveness

The ideal candidate should have broad experience in all aspects of inpatient obstetric care, including labor and delivery and postpartum management, and obstetric emergencies. Candidates should be skilled in the care of routine gynecologic emergencies, including surgical management of ectopic pregnancies, ovarian torsion, and miscarriage.

Responsibilities

Clinical responsibilities will include labor and delivery coverage, postpartum care, participation in rapid response and obstetric emergency management, and collaboration with midwives, physician assistants, MFM subspecialists, OB/GYN specialists, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and nursing staff to optimize patient care and outcomes.

Clinical duties include, but are not limited to:

• Provide coverage for Labor and Delivery.
• Perform vaginal and cesarean deliveries.
• Provide obstetric triage care.
• Provide postpartum care.
• Provide clinical backup and support to the Midwifery Service.
• Management of obstetric and gynecologic emergencies.
• Provide inpatient gynecologic consultations.
• Provide consultative gynecologic services in the Emergency Room for urgent gynecologic conditions.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide high-quality, evidence-based, compassionate care.
• Participate in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, obstetric emergency simulations, and other clinical and operational activities that support patient safety and continuous quality improvement.
• Participate in the Labor & Delivery backup call schedule, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Degree Required (for both positions)

• Medical Degree from an Accredited University. 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Board certified or eligible

• Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology
• New York State Medical License
• At least 3 years’ experience working on a Labor and Delivery Unit post completion of OBGYN Residency
• 0-5 years post training Assistance Clinical OBGYN
• 5-10 years post training Associate clinical OBGYN
