The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Naomi Berrie Diabetes Center Co-Director, the Adult Diabetes Educator will provide comprehensive diabetes education to patients with diabetes and their families and work cooperatively across all areas of the ADA-recognized Berrie Center diabetes program. In addition, the educator will be involved in the Berrie Center diabetes clinical trials program.  The diabetes educator will work in both inpatient and outpatient settings.


Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive diabetes education to patients with diabetes and their families and work cooperatively in all areas of the ADA-recognized Berrie Center diabetes program.
  • Be involved in the Berrie Center diabetes clinical trials program including:
    • insulin pump training
    • glucose sensor training
    • review of glucose and insulin dosing
    • study medication administration
    • review of prevention, recognition, and treatment of low blood sugars
  • Maintain up-to-date patient-facing educational materials for use by all Berrie Center clinicians.
  • Lead support groups for special populations of patients with diabetes.
  • Provide lectures and workshops for pediatric and adult endocrinology fellows and other learners related to practical aspects of diabetes management.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience required
  • Licensed and currently registered as an RN, RD, or PA in NY State

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with insulin pumps and glucose sensors
  • Knowledge or experience with Type 1 diabetes
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a patient care team required
  • Certified Diabetes Educator certification
  • Master’s degree preferred
