**This is a part-time, 20 hour/week position.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Dean of social Justice Initiatives, the Specialist Career Advisor works on the SJI team to help coordinate and deliver counseling for students and graduates of the Law School.
Responsibilities
The Specialist Career Advisor provides professional development and advising services for 1L and JD students at the law school regarding all aspects of their job search activities including resume drafting, cover letter preparation, interviewing and the identification of potential employers. The Specialist Career Advisor will assist such students in identifying the areas of career interest and work environments most consistent with their personal and professional needs and in considering how their first year summer position will advance their career objectives. The Specialist Career Advisor will also meet with 2Ls, 3Ls, and LL.M students as needed including continuing to work with upper year students interested in public interest or public sector careers with whom a relationship has already been established.
The Specialist Career Advisor will also take the lead on special projects assigned by the Dean for Social Justice Initiatives such as organizing Employers Breakfasts or other signature outreach events, as well as helping with key SJI programs and initiatives, and drafting documents and reports.
Minimum Qualifications
College degree required. JD degree required. Three to Five years professional experience as a public interest or government lawyer or the equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience as a public interest career advisor strongly preferred. Superior research, oral and written communication skills (including public speaking), outstanding interpersonal and organization skills and computer literacy required. Ability to be part of a collegial team. Must be able to work with diverse constituencies and support an inclusive work environment.
