Position Summary

Working under the direction of the Manager of Physical Security Services, the incumbent will work in the team that is responsible for implementation support and maintenance related to the Access Control, Video Surveillance, Alarm Monitoring and other electronic security systems at the Columbia University Campuses. The incumbent will assist our Physical Security Specialists in performing regularly scheduled preventive maintenance on physical security systems. The incumbent will provide pre-installation support to Project Team, and under supervision, implement and/or provide support for Public Safety Projects. The incumbent will search and export recorded videos for Investigations.

Position requires the incumbent to work extended hours and respond to service calls on weekends, holidays when requested.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and upgrade the access control, CCTV, intercom and alarm system hardware supported by Public Safety
• Assist Physical Security Specialists in performing regularly scheduled preventive maintenance on physical security systems.
• Execute recorded video pulls as necessary
• Provide Pre-installation support with site surveys, wire identification and wire route tracing
• Perform other duties as required by the department

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or its equivalent required.
• Must have 1 year of related experience; preferably field experience including installation and service of access control, alarm monitoring and video surveillance systems, or any other technical hands on experience.
• Must be highly motivated and have a desire to learn and develop skills in physical security field.
• Must possess the ability to pay attention to detail and follow guidance.
• Must be able to engage in strenuous physical activity, including climbing stairs, carrying ladders and equipment, walking, standing and/or sitting for long periods of time.
• Since the Department of Public Safety is a 24 hour, 7 day a week operation, when necessary the Technician must be willing and able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends, late evenings and early mornings, and during inclement weather
